A sloppy marketing backronym inspired by the acronym Synthetic General Intelligence. The equivalent term SCUI (Synthetic Cognitive User Interface) is used far less commonly. Sage personalities usually command mixed-reality avatars, but may control machinery, cybernetics, mechOids, or exist as entirely unembodied cognitive advisors. Sages often perform low- and mid-level information work in corporations, as their annual licence fees are usually far less than the equivalent salary of a human capable of performing the same work. Sages are usually programmed with social behaviours and are able to imitate social interactions. However, there is nothing that it is like to be a Sage; they are entirely without inner subjective experience. In the media industry, Sages are often referred to as mOids. Counterculture calls them just oids.
